1913. The first series of coins that were to be used only on the island were made by a private firm, Frank & Co.
1920 to 1930. Further coinage issues were generated at the Manila Mint. During World War II, special paper money was produced as well.
The use of Chaulmoogra oil as a treatment for leprosy which was initially used in a Louisiana Leper Colony was widely used in Culion.
1937. Section 1066 of Act No. 2711, also known as the Revised Administrative Act, gave the power to the Department Head through the Director of Health to have full authority over the island and its waters for the effective management of the colony.
1940. A new medicine for leprosy known as Dapsone was developed.
